Diplomate of National Board (DNB) is a Post-graduate Master's degree, equivalent to MD/MS, awarded to Specialist Doctors in India after completing a three-year residency. The National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi, an autonomous academic body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, administers DNB courses and awards degrees upon successful completion of postgraduate residence. People who have finished an MD/MS program in their respective subjects are eligible to take the final DNB certification exam alongside ordinary DNB learners.
Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) is a post-MD/MS/DNB superspecialty degree conferred by NBE. It is equivalent to the Doctorate of Medicine (DM) and Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) degrees awarded in medical and surgical superspecialties. In 1975, the Indian government established the National Board of Examinations, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with the primary goal of conducting postgraduate and postdoctoral courses of high and uniform national standard in various disciplines of modern medicine and allied sciences on an all-India single point admission basis.[1] The Board conducts its postgraduate and postdoctoral programs in recognized government, trust, and private teaching hospitals in various cities and towns after accreditation by the board, and in medical colleges accredited by the Medical Council India.
